If you are hiring a skip in Manchester and the skip will be placed on private land such as a driveway or garden, you will not need to obtain a skip permit. However, if you want your skip to be placed on the road such, pavement or any other form of publiclly accessible area, you will need to obtain a permit from your local Manchester council.

This includes ensuring that where you require the skip to be placed is fully accessible by our skip lorries and will be for skip pick up as well. In addition to that, you must prepare for the arrival of the skip by planning how you will load the waste into it. Load the Skip Evenly Once you are ready to load the skip, load any flat items in first, at the bottom and around the edges. However, make sure that nothing sticks up above the edges of the skip.

Exceeding the fill line can have an impact on safety as well as the environment in a number of ways: Items may fall out of your skip onto pedestrians or into the path of drivers. Waste sticking out of your skip may be clipped by vehicles and could injure pedestrians.

Skips come in a range of sizes which are suitable for most projects and requirements. Depending on the type of waste in your skip we try to separate and ensure that recyclable materials are recycled using the correct methods. We have a list of materials that you cannot place inside our skips and these requirements must be a heard to. If materials are recyclable we will collect and send to a recycling facility or recycle at our own facilities where possible. General waste will be collected and destroyed following the requirements set out by local authorities.

Generally you can put cardboard, construction/demolition waste (nails, rubble, tree stumps, etc.), household waste (bottles, cans, clothing, compost, disposables, etc.), magazines, mixed metals, timber (panels, composite panels, veneers, etc.), wood (old furniture, hardwood flooring) and mixed recyclables (plastic bottles, cans, glass and paper) into your skip.

However, you cannot put asbestos, batteries, fridges/freezers, tyres and paint/paint cans into your skip.

We prefer someone to be on site for the delivery or collection of a skip so that the relevant paperwork can be signed at the handover. However, we appreciate that it is not always possible and we will always do our best to accommodate customers who are unable to be present.
